Becoming a TFC Parent

Treatment Foster Parents play a central and irreplaceable role in a child’s life. Their primary task is to temporarily care and nurture a child until plans can be made for the child’s future. However, providing treatment to children within a stable family setting involves much more. It means working in partnership with the agency and the child’s birth family to support the child during a difficult time.

Treatment Foster Parents help children:

  • develop positive self-esteem and communication skills
  • modify behavior patterns
  • and teach children to identify and express feelings appropriately

In addition, their professional tasks include participating in treatment team meetings and providing written documentation about each child’s progress.

When the time comes, Treatment Foster Parents prepare a child to leave their home and reside in long-term living arrangements with their family or adoptive parents.

Benefits for TFC Parents:

  • Part of a team of professionals working collaboratively to help children
  • Intensive case management support
  • Expansive continuum of support services from our well-established child welfare agency
  • Respite care
  • Professional development
  • Competitive pay scale
