TFC Parent Requirements

  • Previous parenting or foster care experience, or special skills in working with children
  • Positively accept and respect each child as an individual
  • Provide for physical care and maintenance of the child
  • One parent must be home full-time, year round
  • Be competent adults with a demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment decision-making
  • Ability to work and communicate openly and effectively as a team member
  • Utilize community support systems to assist in the care of the child and maintain good community relationships
  • Willingness to work alongside foster child’s birth or adoptive parents
  • Experience in dealing effectively with crisis
  • Participate in the selection of children for placement in the foster home, development of the child’s treatment plan, and assessment of the child’s progress
  • Attend training and support group meetings, seeking to update and improve personal treatment skills
    • Behavior Modification (annually)
    • Crisis Prevention/Intervention Training (annually)
    • Privacy and Confidentiality (annually)
    • Blood borne Pathogens (annually)
    • CPR/First Aid (annually)
    • Diversity (annually)
    • Support Meetings twice each month
    • 24 hours of training each year
  • Successfully complete criminal background checks, driver’s license check, and reference checks
