According to the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families, on an average day there are approximately 8,000 youth that are living in a foster care home in Wisconsin. These youth come from a wide variety of situations and might need different levels of care depending on their background. At Family & Children’s Center we have a Treatment Foster Care program that works with youth who need a higher level of care.
Youth in the Treatment Foster Care program typically have experienced a high level of trauma, have a mental health diagnosis, and might have significantly challenging behaviors. There are currently four licensed treatment foster care homes in the program. These families provide youth with a safe, stable and structured home. The work that these foster parents do on a daily basis is making a huge impact on the youth in their homes.
These foster parents are caring, loving, selfless, teachable, kind and most of all have a lot of patience. They are opening their homes and lives to these young people in hopes to plant seeds for the future in each and every one of them. These families also work very closely with the birth/adoptive families and/or guardians to help these families when they need it the most.
There is a very large need for foster parents right now because, not only is there a large number of youth that need out of home care placements, but also because the goal is to make it the least restrictive environment possible. If you or someone you know might be interested in becoming a treatment foster care parent or you would like more information, please contact us.
Thank you to all the current foster parents for everything they do. They are true everyday heroes!
