graphic text saying I am 1 in 4

I have a mental illness.
My illness doesn’t define me.
I’m in your workplace, school, church and community.
I’m your colleague, brother, neighbor, friend.
I am 1 in 4.

1 in 4 adults experience mental illness each year. They are your neighbors, friends, colleagues and family members, and they cope silently, afraid they will be labeled as crazy, psycho or dangerous — rather than just another person living with a chronic illness.

The stigma of mental illness helps no one. It prevents those who are ill from seeking help and all of us from seeing the gifts and abilities that people with mental illness can offer. It’s time to eliminate the stigma, and it begins with learning more about mental illness and how you can help.
