FCC RISE program supports youth and community members (WXOW)

WINONA, Minn. (WXOW) — Family and Children’s Center (FCC) in Winona is accepting clients for its newest program – RISE.

RISE stands for Resilience, Independence, Support and Engagement.

The purpose of the program is to provide resources, activities and mental health support to youth who are at risk of truancy or engaging in violence.

There is also a parent education in the program to help adults support their youth at home.

The program is for children ages eight up to 16 and will run after school from 2:30-6:30 p.m.

“Each child will have a treatment plan where we can focus on the reasons why they’re not going to school,” FCC Director of Minnesota Programs Karrie Hahn said.

“What are those barriers that are preventing them from going to school and what can we do to help them with it? It could be just learning anger management. It could be, you know, talking about bullying. Or even looking at their own mental health concerns they have themselves.”

The RISE Program is possible thanks to a $450,000 grant from Minnesota’s Office of Justice’s 2024 Community Crime Intervention and Prevention Program.

The story originally aired on WXOW on December 20, 2024.
