Family & Children’s Center looks to help new mothers with sobriety (WXOW)

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) — The Family & Children’s Center is opening a new home to help new and expecting mothers navigate their way through recovery.

The new residential program will operate out of the Lotus House. The space will give four new mothers a safe, supportive, and stable environment for themselves and their child for one year.

The program will be intensive, as residents will be expected to work towards full independence.

“It’s going to be an active house with up to four residents and their babies,” said Mary Jacobson, director of programs at the Family and Children’s Center. “And so we’ll have a full-time case manager available to them as well as the wraparound services that will support them with parenting, education, work development, recovery, of course, group meetings, house meetings, and a variety of other resources that are needed in order to make them successful.”

The Family & Children’s Center hopes to have this program up and running by the end of the summer.

The Lotus Home is hosting a nesting party to help get materials for the home and the babies. You can donate to the nesting party by visiting the Family & Children’s Center website.

The story originally aired on WXOW on May 26, 2026.
