LA CROSSE, Wis.  (WXOW) – The Family & Children’s Center is moving their headquarters to the former building of the Marine Credit Union at 811 Monitor Street.

The new, smaller facility provides more spatial flexibility than the organization’s previous home of 31 years.

Members of the non-profit say the donors’ concerns over sustainability prompted the move.

President and CEO of FCC, Tita Yutuc, said flexibility, their clients’ experience, and proximity for families and staff played a role in location selection.

“It’ll help us be more efficient as we work with clients,” said Yutuc.

The President and CEO also hinted at the possibility of future expansions or remodels based on the needs of the clients.

FCC plans to move within the next year, with their old location hitting the market by then end of Summer.

LA CROSSE (WKBT) — The Family and Children’s Center entered an agreement to purchase the former Marine Credit Union Administration building in La Crosse.

In a news release Monday, FCC said the agreement was entered effective June 5, and will see the facility at 811 Monitor Street become the new headquarters for FCC in La Crosse.

The release does not disclose how much FCC will pay for the building, but a quote from FCC Board Chair Jennifer Knapp Severson estimated the cost to be roughly $58 per square foot. The facility is 31,000 square feet, according to the release.

In fall of 2022, the former Marine Credit Union building was considered for potentially becoming an affordable housing unit, but that plan was ultimately voted down in October.

FCC’s current La Crosse headquarters is located on Main Street near UW-La Crosse’s campus. It was built in 1914 and operated for decades as the Grandview Hospital. The 41,000-square-foot building will be placed on the market once their purchase on Monitor Street becomes final.

The new facility will be smaller, but FCC says it still offers opportunity for future expansion.

“Like many businesses and non-profits, especially following the pandemic, we have been carefully analyzing square footage needs,” FCC CEO and President Tita Yutuc said. “For us, a larger building does not necessarily drive client care now or in the future, particularly as many of our services are delivered personally to our clients. States have also changed models of youth and client care replacing many residential options to in-home models.”

In total, FCC operates seven facilities in La Crosse, Winona, Viroqua, Sparta and Black River Falls.

FCC will keep their facility located off of Losey Boulevard at 2507 Weston Street in La Crosse. Yutuc expects that FCC will move into the new Monitor Street building within one year.

LA CROSSE (WKBT) – The Family and Children’s Center will move into the former Marine Credit Union on the city’s lower north side.

The building is located at 811 Monitor Street.

For board member leaders, a new location was a top priority.

“We wanted to make sure the building was in a location that was easily accessible to our clients and to our staff. We wanted to make sure that the experience that our clients and our staff had in the building was a good experience,” said Tita Yutuc, the President of the Family and Children’s Center.

The new building will have multi-purpose areas and better security.

The new location will help grow their capacity to handle child abuse prevention and their existing programs.
