Family & Children’s Center to host events throughout April during Child Abuse Awareness Month
One in four girls and one in 13 boys will be victims of child abuse.
During Child Abuse Awareness Month in April, Family & Children’s Center (FCC) will be providing free awareness events at locations in La Crosse, Winona and Viroqua.
March 28, 1 p.m. –
The effort will get underway March 28 when community members of all ages are invited to help FCC staff place blue silhouettes of children in front of FCC’s Winona offices, at 601 Franklin Street, Winona, MN as a way to raise awareness of the prevention efforts Family & Children’s Center is making to help protect every child, every day.
April 1, 1 p.m. –
Community members are invited to FCC’s La Crosse offices on April 1 as staff and area children help place the blue silhouettes of children. President and CEO Tita Yutuc will be joined by staff and board members to help highlight FCC’s continued efforts. The event is free and open to the public to attend and join the effort.
Silhouettes will also be placed the offices at the Drop-In Respite Center building on Weston Street in La Crosse, and at the Viroqua offices on North Main Street.
April 3, 1 p.m. –
Join FCC staff at our Viroqua offices on April 3 as we place the blue silhouettes of children.
Danielle Swedberg is the Program Coordinator for FCC’s child advocacy centers (CAC). According to Danielle, FCC provided services to 639 children and their non-offending caregivers who were part of a child protection investigation in 2023.
Family & Children’s Center will join with community partners throughout the month of April to host events to raise awareness.
April 11, 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. –
Community members are invited to Family & Children’s Center’s Winona offices, located at 601 Franklin Street, on April 11 for the ‘Hands are For…’ art contest. Local students are making art that highlights the positive uses of our hands during the annual contest cooperatively held by FCC and the Winona County Primary Prevention Project. Community members are invited to stop by and help us pick the winning selections for this year’s contest.
April 18, 5 p.m. –
On April 18, Join us for a celebration of all of the ‘Hands are For…’ artists, taking place at WNB Financial, 204 Main Street, Winona. The celebration will take place at the downtown WNB Financial location. Community members are invited to stop by view hundreds of pieces of art as we celebrate the countless wonderful things ‘Hands Are For’.
April 22, 4 p.m. –
A walk to provide awareness for child abuse and sexual assault will be offered in coordination with WSU’s Professor Ruth Charles, social work students, FCC staff and the public. Community members are invited to meet at the gazebo near Phelps Hall on April 22 to walk to FCC. Refreshments will be provided after the walk at 4:30 p.m..
