UW-La Crosse staff members donate toys to Family & Children Center

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) – Each year, staff members from UW La Crosse donate hand made wooden toys to the Family and Children’s Center.

That tradition continued Wednesday afternoon.

40 bags will be distributed to children taking part in programs at the Family and Children’s Center as part of a holiday giving effort. Each bag has a variety of gifts inside plus including the handmade wooden toys.

Renee Redman, a teaching professor at UW-L, said this is a great way to reflect the season.

“It’s why we do it. It’s what brings joy to the season,” Redman stated. “It’s all about giving this time of year and the more we can give the better the season is for all of us.”

This contribution comes as the Family and Children’s Center will hold an open house Thursday showcasing their new headquarters.

Their new location is 811 Monitor St.

On Thursday, Scott Cooper, a professor at UW-La Crosse, and his team of woodworking volunteers, known as “woodworking elves,” donated a collection of handcrafted wooden toys to the Family and Children’s Center (FCC).

The toys will be distributed to children involved in the center’s various programs. This donation is part of the FCC’s ongoing Holiday Giving initiative, which is aimed at supporting local families during the festive season.

“It’s what brings joy to the season. It’s all about giving this time of year, and the more we can give, the better the season is for all of us,” said Renee Redman, Teaching Professor at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

In total, 40 gift bags were handed out to families.
