You can help through the Host Homes program!

Host Homes is a voluntary program that serves youth who are homeless or at risk of homelessness within the La Crosse area.

During the 2021-22 school year, La Crosse reported 162 homeless students.

The program connects youth with providers who are willing to serve as a support to the youth in any of the following ways:

  • Mentorship: Meeting with youth to help them work on goals and build their connections within the community. This is a great fit for younger volunteers or those who aren’t able to host youth in their homes.
  • Short-term hosting: Allowing youth to move into your home for a shorter duration, usually a weekend, or stay on an intermittent schedule, such as a few times a month. This is a good option for those with busy schedules who want to help youth when they can.
  • Long-term hosting: Having a youth move into the home for a duration generally over 30 days. These hosts are those with extra space for youth and the ability to provide a full-time family setting for them.

Volunteer options are not mutually exclusive, and hosts have the flexibility to decide when they want to change their hosting situation as well as what types of youth they would feel comfortable working with.

We want to find good matches for everyone. Both hosts and youth involved with the program receive ongoing support from the program social worker.
